are why I do what I do. Since the inception of Christa Cares, I have become forever changed. I never take a day for granted.
The "Christa Cares" Story
The Beginning
Christa Cares was born out of a deep-rooted passion for community service, inspired by a legacy of giving instilled in me by my mother. From an early age, I learned the value of helping others and recognized the power of compassion.
The seeds for Christa Cares were planted in kindergarten when I befriended a classmate who confided in me that she and her mother were homeless. It was a secret I held close to my heart, but it awakened a desire to make a difference. Witnessing their struggles left an indelible mark on me, igniting a sense of purpose that would only grow stronger.
The Inspiration
In third grade, I experienced a transformative moment when the United States elected its first African-American president. Watching my mother’s emotional reaction to this historic event, I began to understand the significance of leadership and change. I asked her what age I needed to be to make a meaningful impact, and her answer was simple yet profound: “As long as God places it in your heart, follow through.” That advice sparked a fire within me.
The Movement
I couldn’t shake the thought of my friend and her struggles. I wanted to do more than feel sad—I wanted to help. This determination led me to create “Bag Lady”. I started by refurbishing purses from my mother’s closet as well as other family members who would donate their old purses then filling them with toiletries and essential supplies, and distributing them to women in shelters. However, I quickly realized my vision extended beyond just this initiative. I wanted to address more needs in my community.
The Evolution
And so, Christa Cares was born. What began as a small project evolved into a nonprofit organization hosting three major annual events:
1. Back-to-School Drives – Supplying children with backpacks and school supplies to prepare them for a successful school year.
2. Holiday Toy Distribution – Providing toys to families experiencing hardship and children in the foster care system to bring joy during the holiday season.
3. Veteran Outreach – Distributing toiletries and brand-new blankets to veterans at the Miami VA, honoring their sacrifices and ensuring they feel supported.
The Continued Journey
Christa Cares thrives because of the unwavering faith my parents instilled in me and the support of family, friends, local businesses, and community partners who believed in my vision. Each contribution—whether time, resources, or encouragement—has been a vital part of our journey.
Today, Christa Cares is a reflection of the compassion and resilience I’ve carried since childhood. It is proof that a simple act of kindness can spark a movement, and I have faith that with continued support, Christa Cares will grow to make an even greater impact. Together, we will build a brighter, more caring world for those in need.
